Revolutions and Comic Books

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton headed to Abu Dhabi today for talks with the Libya Contact Group. Last time the gang got together, they decided to give aid to Libyan opposition, in part by tapping into Qaddafi’s assets. The focus tomorrow is likely to be skewed toward the post-Qaddafi world. Yesterday, President Obama commented on the great advances attacks on Libya are making and once again called on the Libyan leader to step aside.

But Clinton’s not all business. Who better for Representative Anthony Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, to turn to for advice on how to deal with her husband’s escapades than her boss, Hillary. After all, Clinton survived a sex scandal that hit very close to home and now finds herself as secretary of state. Fueling the superhero-like persona, a comic book starring the one and only will hit newsstands today. It covers Clinton’s time as secretary of state.

Leon Panetta, now the CIA director, said that he’s ready to face the realities of what it will mean to be secretary of defense. Outgoing SecDef Robert Gates has long been working on trimming the Defense fat, and Panetta is fully aware that “difficult choices will have to be made.” He intends to play a “large role” in the massive budget review that Gates started.

National Security Adviser Tom Donilon sat down yesterday with Bahraini Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad al-Khalifa, a meeting that President Obama dropped in on. The president said he hoped Bahrain would make good on promises to address human rights abuses in the country. Secretary Clinton also met with the crown prince earlier in the day, in addition to attending a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle.
