The looming Corona Depression could be the real catastrophe of the Wuhan Coronavirus. If we are not careful there might not be an economy left to come back to once the pandemic is over. Washington could experience severe backlash if it fails to rise to the occasion and meet the challenge at hand. And if the political establishment lets the people down again as they did in 2008 and many suspect that they will, the experience of the twenties and thirties tell us we should be ready for the rise of truly radical movements on both the Right and the Left and a total overhaul of our politics—Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders will be remembered as too mild and tame in retrospect.
