A 'Torpedo Room Explosion' Sunk a Russian Nuclear Powered Submarine
In August 2000, the Russian nuclear-powered submarine Kursk sank in the Barents Sea after an explosion in its torpedo room, killing all 118 crew members. The tragedy occurred during a naval exercise, and slow rescue efforts worsened the disaster, with 23 sailors surviving the initial blast but succumbing in the days that followed.
