Shinzo Abe's Underhanded Trade War Against South Korea

The Japanese prime minister's strategy regarding the Korean Peninsula is highly reminiscent of parochial “divide and conquer” tactics.

Abe’s strategy regarding the Korean Peninsula is highly reminiscent of parochial “divide and conquer” tactics. The division of the Korean Peninsula, engineered by the Great Powers, was a massive tragedy for Koreans. It infuriates Koreans to think we have a neighbor who wishes to keep us divided and at each other’s throats for the sake of political mind games. In 2017, Abe used the pretext of “North Korean threats” to bolster his profile in the general election. He is now trying to lump North and South Korea in the “bad guy” category. If this can even be called a strategic move, then it is an outdated and shabby attempt at one.

“Peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula” will serve the interests of Japanese companies and people alike. This should be common knowledge. A new peaceful environment will create new opportunities in the market. This is a universally understood truth. In fact, history has validated this path, as we have seen the great dividends through a united Europe. Abe is the only one who refuses to look at the map.
