Ed Brown's MP1 is Expensive, But Worth Every Penny

Each MP1 is fitted with a custom front sight and plain black rear sight, both mounted at suppressor-ready height, and a re-designed extractor to ensure perfect reliability.

Here's What You Need to Know: The MP1 is perfect for serious purposes like concealed carry, self-defense, or home defense, and the MP1 is everything you’d expect from Ed Brown, a leader in the custom work industry.

The Ed Brown Fueled series is a collection of overhauled, customized versions of Smith & Wesson M&P pistols that emphasize ergonomics, accuracy, and reliability, and the MP1 is the first model in production. They’ve replaced the front rail block with a fully-machined, oversized block fitted right into the polymer frame, calling it an “Accuracy Rail.” This gives the slide and barrel a perfect mating surface for the best fit, reducing slide-to-frame rattle, improving barrel lockup, and providing exceptional accuracy.

Each MP1 is fitted with a custom Ameriglo Pro-Glo tritium front sight and plain black rear sight, both mounted at suppressor-ready height, and a re-designed, re-engineered custom extractor to ensure perfect reliability. With an emphasis on both accuracy and reliability, you can be sure it’ll consistently fire anything you feed it.

The black polymer grip gives you a great handle on the pistol, and the rugged construction helps it stand up to everyday concealed carry use. The stainless steel, button-rifled match barrel is customized with Ed Brown Tread Flutes and traditional rifling, with a 1:10 twist rate and eleven-degree target crown. It comes with half-inch by twenty-eight-inch threads and a thread protector, making it fully suppressor-ready if you like to shoot without worrying about ear protection.

Let’s talk about one of my favorite parts of the MP1: the trigger. Ed Brown has included an Apex Tactical trigger on the Fueled series, which offers a smooth, consistent pull, release, and reset. It stays safe when not in use, which is a bonus in my eyes.

In the box, you’ll find one 17+1 round magazine with a low-profile base pad, as well as a 19+1 round magazine with an extended base pad. I was pleased that it also featured a signature Ed Brown Low-Profile 360-degree magwell, which has an enlarged opening for faster, more secure reloads. If you’re using this pistol under stressful conditions, such as self or home defense, this is a huge selling point.

Since these are custom-built handguns, prices can vary quite a bit. The base price is $1,995, which I think is pretty fair for a quality custom piece. It’s perfect for serious purposes like concealed carry, self-defense, or home defense, and the MP1 is everything you’d expect from Ed Brown, a leader in the custom work industry.
