Phil Habib did more, tried more, and succeeded at more than perhaps any Foreign Service Officer of his generation. Those who want to understand not simply what he did for our country, but how he did it, should read Boykin's excellent book. It is more than a paean to Phil Habib; read properly it is a manual of sorts for his would-be successors.
