Bombs Away: These Are the Best U.S. Military Photos of the Week

For your viewing pleasure.

This week’s collection of photos gives us a breathtaking view of the B-52 Stratofortress and a gorgeous sunset in California.

But it starts in the Pacific Ocean as a Super Stallion helicopter lands on the USS Harpers Ferry as part of USS Boxer Amphibious Ready Group.

In Germany, the 2nd Cavalry Regiment conducts a dry rehearsal with a Mark 19 40 mm grenade launcher machine gun. The test is used to recognize Infantrymen who have mastered critical tasks.

A bird’s eye view above a B-52 Stratofortress gives us a different look at the enormous bomber. The plane was completing a routine NATO deter and detect flight over the U.K. coastline.

Marines with the 2nd Division take a moment on night watch to enjoy a beautiful sunset in California. The Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion was part of National Training Center 19-05.

A live-fire exercise in the Arabian Sea let the USS Mobile Bay fire off it’s Mark 4 5-inch gun.

And finally a stunning shot of the United Launch Alliance’s Delta Iv rocket taking off from Cape Canaveral. The rocket delivered a U.S. military communications satellite into orbit.
