U.S. Army Will be Testing Hypersonic Weapons Next Year

Russia and China will be watching for sure.

This could be big.

The U.S. Army has announced that they will be testing hypersonic weapons next year, likely in the form of a cruise missile.

The weapon can reportedly move five times the speed of sound and is launched by a tactical truck with a 30-foot transporter erector launcher.

The weapon is “the first shoot ever off of the transporter erector launcher,” according to Lt. Gen. Neil Thurgood of the Army’s Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office.

“It will be done by soldiers,” he said. “The reason we’re going to do that is that we need them to start training. We need to get this equipment in the hands of soldiers quickly to learn.”

UPI reports that the weapon will also be used by the Air Force and Navy.
