Stimulus Checks? Millions of Americans Are Still Waiting.

Before we talk about a fourth round, maybe we can finish the third round first?

Here's What You Need To Remember: There are several possible reasons for a delay, from lost mail to incorrect banking information.

The $1,400 stimulus checks are presently going out as part of the American Rescue Plan, which was signed by President Biden in March. Those who haven’t yet received their payment are encouraged to go to the IRS’ Get My Payment tool, for information on where your payment is.

But how will you recognize your check when it arrives?

According to CNBC, the checks come from the U.S. Treasury. They have a picture of the Statue of Liberty, and the words “Economic Impact Payment,” which is the government’s official name for the stimulus checks. Others will receive a prepaid debit card, which will arrive in an envelope with the return address stating “Economic Payment Card.” The cards themselves will come from Visa, with MetaBank N.A. on the back.

As for those who receive their payment as a direct deposit, the payment will show up on bank accounts as “IRS TREAS 310.”

According to the IRS’ frequently-asked-questions page for the new checks, some recipients will get checks, in the event that the IRS can’t reach their bank.

“If your account is closed or a direct deposit was returned from your bank for any other reason, the IRS will reissue the payment as a U.S. Treasury check or an EIP Card to the address we have on file for you. This is generally the address on your most recent tax return or as updated through the United States Postal Service (USPS),” the IRS said.

The third round of checks is still being distributed, but there’s already a push underway for a fourth stimulus, with a group of Democratic senators writing a letter to the president earlier this spring asking to make new checks part of the infrastructure package. Others have even suggested making the stimulus payments permanent, or keeping the direct checks going at least until the pandemic is over.

Biden is expected to announce the next steps on Wednesday, in his first address to a joint session of Congress, although it’s not likely that Biden will announce a fourth round of stimulus checks specifically. The speech will be focused on Biden’s proposed $1.5 trillion American Family Plan, which will offer aid for fighting poverty, reducing child care costs, offering free pre-K and community college, and more, with the spending paid for by raising the highest marginal tax rate from 37 percent to 39.6 percent. Biden also plans to include an extension of the expanded child tax credit from the American Rescue Plan.

Meanwhile, some state and local governments are awaiting instructions on how to disperse the $350 billion in aide that was mandated as part of the American Rescue Plan.
