Sony’s A8H OLED TV: The Reviews Are In...

While the price tag is high, the Sony A8H is a phenomenal TV that anyone would be lucky to own

A couple of more reviews have dropped for Sony’s A8H OLED TV, following some that came out last month. The 4K A8H series was introduced at CES back in January, and is available in 55-inch and 65-inch sizes, priced at $2,299.99 and $3,099.99.

RTINGS.com gave the A8H an 8.7 mixed usage score. This places the Sony TV fifth overall on the RTINGS’ list, which makes it the highest-rated non-LG TV, and the second-highest-ranking TV among 2020 models, behind only the LG CX OLED series.

The site describes the A8H series as “an excellent OLED TV that delivers incredible picture quality for any type of content and is a fairly decent upgrade over its predecessor, the Sony A8G OLED." It goes on to praise the TV’s “perfect black levels,” “wide viewing angles” and “near-instantaneous response time,” while listing the risk of permanent burn-in as the only drawback.

RTINGS also gave the A8H series an uncommonly high score of 9.4 for movies, stating that “There's no backlight, so you won't get distracted by any blooming around bright objects. It can remove judder from all sources, but there's a bit of stuttering in lower frame rate content.”

Also published this week was a review of the Sony A8H series by reviewed.com.

“While the Sony A8H doesn't quite blend performance, software, and design as deftly as, say, the LG CX, it's nevertheless a fantastic TV with the performance chops we've come to expect from OLED TVs,” the review said.

It concluded that the TV is part of the “club” of “the best TVs money can buy,” but advised users to check out competing TVs, such as LG’s CX and C9.

“Unless you're a diehard Sony fan, there are other factors to consider if you're looking to invest in a posh TV experience,” Reviewed said. “If you’re a diehard gamer, or you’re looking for something with a bit more style, we’d suggest looking at the LG CX series. That said, while the price tag is high, the Sony A8H is a phenomenal TV that anyone would be lucky to own.”
